One of my clients is taking me to see the Tampa Bay Buccaneers play the Dallas Cowboys tomorrow. You might laugh at this, but this will be my very first professional football game that I will ever have attended! I have to repeat that. I’ve never been to professional football game in my entire life.
I met Ray, my client who I’ve developed a good friendship with, at a local coffee shop the other day. After we discussed some graphics work that he was looking for, he told me that he had an extra ticket to the Bucs vs. Cowboys game this weekend, and asked if I would like to join him and his buddies who go to every Bucs game. When I told him that I hadn’t been to a game yet, he was almost ashamed of me, and since it was my first game, he said that they would be the perfect people to go with.
Ray and his buddies tailgate every single game, but they have a limo take them to the games, so they don’t have to drive and can get good and liquored up prior to, and during the game. There’s about 15 of them that come down from Clearwater in a limo, and they would pick me up on the way.
Truth be told, I’m not the biggest sports fan. I’m more of a gamer, internet, graphics nerd kind of guy, but I’m excited to go watch some really really big men kick the snot out of each other for about 3 hours.
It’s been a very long time since I’ve been to a major sports game. In fact, I think the last game I went to was at Wrigley Field in Chicago with my Dad. That was almost four and a half years ago, and it’s a game I remember vividly, because I was underage, and my Dad was trying to get every bouncer to let me into the bars with him. Finally, we just found a restaurant/pub that would let us in, after he tried to get us into the Cubby Bear and Harry Carey’s unsuccessfully. That was a fun day, because I love Chicago, and my Dad is a lot of fun to be around. Dad is not really a big football fan either. He loved baseball and hockey, and didn’t like to watch football very much because he had a bad experience as a kid at a football game with his dad. He explained it to me a long time ago, but I forget exactly what he said.
I’m excited for Sunday, and Ray said that all of his buddies are pretty easy going, and they like to have a good time. Ray strikes me as a bit of a guys guy. He’s a former athlete himself, ran track in college at University of Miami, and was an aspiring Olympian when he was younger. He runs a food truck company, and is expanding, therefore he needs some help with logos, graphics, and the like.
Should be a good time, and I’m excited!
